Casamento (Ire) (Shamardal-Wedding Gift {Fr}, by Always Fair), winner of the G1 Racing Post Trophy and G2 Beresford S. in 2010 and a useful dual purpose sire, has died aged 12 at Sunnyhill Stud as a result of a hoof condition, Racing Post reports.
Casamento was campaigned by Sheikh Mohammed with trainer Mick Halford at two, and stood five seasons between Kildangan and Dalham Hall Studs before a brief stint in Sweden and two years at Sunnyhill. He leaves behind 10 stakes winners, headed by the Australian Group 1 winner Kings Will Dream (Aus) and the likes of G2 Jockey Club S. and Princess of Wales's S. winner Communique (Ire), G2 Prix de Royallieu victress Princess Yaiza (Ire) and GII Belmont Gold Cup winner Amade (Ire).
Sunnyhill owner Michael Hickey told Racing Post, “Unfortunately he had a condition in a hind hoof which deteriorated despite surgery and prolonged veterinary care and there was nothing more that could be done.
“It's very sad. He was a gorgeous horse, a good 16.1 hands, and he was a pleasure to deal with. I'm very grateful to Darley for letting us stand him and I'm just sorry that this unfortunate occurrence happened.”
